Hello friends my name is Emma Mayer and I’m a Canadian British Columbia based ceramic artist who completed my BFA at Emily Carr University of Art & Design in 2022.

Growing up with immigrant parents from South Africa and Mauritius my childhood was filled with whimsical stories by authors like Enid Blyton, Rohld Dahl and Rudyard Kipling. As an adult who struggles with mental health issues I still return to this place of childhood narratives when my own life becomes overwhelming and out of control.

Through my ceramics I created my own world full of my “critters”. To me my critters represent the world and people I see around me while also making me pause and appreciate the small moments in everyday life like grabbing a coffee with a friend, feeling sunbeams dance across my face or sleeping in on a Saturday.

I hope my critters remind you to enjoy and notice the small everyday moments in life.
